I usually just use cmd+s in os x and then cntrl+s in windows…it’s easiest for me.

However, I agree that a child would understand a floppy meant to save the file. They could be taught what a floppy was/is.

Also, they could always just use the slow method and choose…file…and then save as… 😛

In fact for a long time there were icon sets that varied only by this polarising distinction.
